Varkauden Urheiluseurat ry

suomi svenska english deutsch eesti

Finnish athletics and sports are based on strong volunteer work within the organisations. There are approximately 7000 registered athletics- and sports-clubs in Finland.

Communities – also Varkaus – support the clubs by giving them funds, and also by building and maintaining the sports centers. The communities also organize several different events especially concerning healthsports, sports for disabled people and national campaigns.

The sport clubs are supported by their own national sports associations and sports organisations, and also by the area.

In 1993 the different sport clubs in Varkaus founded an unic co-operational organisation called Varkauden Urheiluseurat ry. The organisation is in charge of several different tasks:

  • organising and supervising the volunteer work
  • supervising the benefits of the clubs
  • informing the youth of the sport events
  • educating the members of the organisation
  • basic training of athletic coaches and counselors
  • childrens camps and clubs
  • training and employing of the youth
  • organising sommerjobs for the youth
  • employing and co-ordinating long-run unemployed
  • selling woodmill waste products
  • improving the co-operation between the organisations in the area...

The sport clubs are responsible for organising practices and competitions. Varkauden Urheiluseurat ry has decided not to take part in that type of work.

Varkauden Urheiluseurat ry tries to support with its own actions the work of the local clubs.
